Scholarship Policies and Procedures

  • a. Eligibility: Who should apply

    ·       Good Shepherd University encourages students who demonstrate strong character, academic commitment, and financial need to apply.

    ·       The following individuals are eligible:

    o   Newly admitted students in any undergraduate or graduate program.

    o   Students who demonstrate financial need, personal hardship, or exceptional service to their community, church, or profession.

    ·       Scholarships are open to all eligible students regardless of age, background, or employment status.

    b. Applicants must be:

    ·       Admitted to a program at Good Shepherd University, and

    ·       Registered for the term in which the scholarship will be applied.

    ·       Have a current minimum overall GPA of 2.5 for an undergraduate program or 3.0 for a graduate program at the time of application.

    ·       Note: For first-time transfer students, the GPA from the transferred university will be considered at the current overall GPA

    c. Scholarship Amount:

    ·       The scholarship amount varies depending on available funding each term:

    o   Standard Award Range: $750 – $2250 per term

    o   Maximum Annual Award: Cannot exceed 50% of the student’s total annual tuition

    ·       Amounts are determined by the Scholarship Committee based on:

    o   Financial need

    o   Academic performance

    o   Program of study

    o   Availability of scholarship funds

    d.     Application of Scholarship to Tuition

    ·       Approved scholarship funds are applied directly toward the student’s tuition balance.

    ·       The following rules apply:

    o   Awards are non-refundable and may not be converted to cash.

    o   Funds apply only to the term for which the award is granted.

    o   If the student withdraws or drops below half-time enrollment, the scholarship may be revoked.

    o   Scholarship cannot be used for:

    §  Late fees

    §  Books and supplies

    §  Housing or personal expenses

    o   Remaining tuition balances after the scholarship is applied must be covered by the student through other sources.

    e. Application Timeline & Review Process:

    ·       Application Deadline: Generally 2–4 weeks before the start of the term.

    ·       Review: The Scholarship Committee evaluates applications based on established criteria.

    ·       Notification: Students are informed by email within 7–14 days after committee review.

    ·       Award Posting: Scholarships are posted to the student’s account before the billing deadline.

    f. Renewal Requirements:

    ·       Scholarships are not automatically renewed. Students must reapply each term by:

    ·       Maintaining the required GPA

    ·       Demonstrating continued financial need

    ·       Remaining in good academic and conduct standing

  • To be considered for a scholarship award, applicants must submit:

    a. Completed Scholarship Application Form--this includes personal information, program of study, and a statement of need.

     

    b. Personal Statement (300–500 words)-a short essay explaining:

    ·    Educational and career goals

    ·    Financial need

    ·    Contribution to community, church, or workplace

    ·    How the scholarship will support academic success

     

    c. Additional Documents (optional)

    ·       Recommendation letter (faculty, pastor, employer, or mentor)

    ·       Financial documentation (optional but helpful)
